Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 5, 2026
This policy explains how the Asphalt Eye app uses your information. The app is developed by Ayberk Altuntop. In this text, "we" refers to us.
This policy is also the information notice required by Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK). Ayberk Altuntop is the data controller for the information that reaches us (see "Information That Reaches Us").
In Short
- Your recordings stay on your phone. Videos, trips, location, photos and notes are never sent to us.
- The only things that reach us are emails you send us, crash reports Apple passes on, and test details if you join the test version.
- Outside Türkiye, if you turn on Recording Vault, your recordings are also backed up to your own iCloud account.
- You don't need an account. We have no servers, no ads and no usage tracking (analytics).
- Only you can share a recording.
- Locations needed for addresses, maps and weather are sent to Apple's services. To check the time, the app sends a request to the apple.com website. Details below.
Information Kept on Your Phone
The app stores the following on your phone, in its own storage:
- Video recordings: Footage from the rear camera. If you turn on the cabin camera, footage of the vehicle interior from the front camera too. With loop recording on, the oldest unlocked recording is deleted when the storage limit is reached. With Short Loop on, unlocked footage is kept for 2 minutes at most. Clips you lock aren't deleted. On an impact, and on hard braking if that setting is on, the clips of that moment are locked automatically. With Short Loop on, clips locked automatically on hard braking, and clips of an impact you mark as "Not an Accident," are deleted after 3 days unless you keep them.
- Audio: Audio recording starts off. If you turn it on, sound inside the vehicle is added to the video. Audio isn't recorded during phone calls and internet calls that iPhone reports.
- Trips: Location (route), speed, elevation and motion sensor readings, events (hard braking, rapid acceleration, hard cornering, impact), Driving Score, weather and trip summaries.
- Photos and notes: Incident and rental photos you take in the app, copies of photos you add from Photos, incident notes and damage notes.
- Witness details: Names, phone numbers and notes you enter yourself on the Incident Screen.
- Rental details: License plate, make and model, contract number, contract photo, pickup and return locations, odometer and fuel. Reading the license plate from a photo also happens on your phone.
- Evidence packages and reports: PDF reports, clips and file fingerprints (SHA-256) that you create.
- Your settings and the app's activity log (for example, when an auto trip started).
- Last locations for auto trips: Where your vehicle was last parked and your phone's last known location. These two locations are used to detect a drive that starts while the app is closed and to find where the trip began.
We can't see or process this information on your phone. If you delete the app, everything on your phone is deleted. Copies in Recording Vault stay in your iCloud account.
Information That Leaves Your Phone
The app sends nothing to a server of its own. Some features use Apple's services. These requests go directly from your phone to Apple and don't pass through us. Apple receives this information to provide its own service and handles it under its own privacy policy. Apple's servers may be outside Türkiye. As with any internet request, Apple can see the IP address the request comes from.
- Maps and addresses: To find the names of the places where a trip starts and ends, the coordinates of those two points are sent to Apple's map service. Place names are looked up automatically when a trip ends. The coordinates of an incident location and a rental pickup location are also sent to find the incident's address and country and the pickup location's name. The incident's country is used for the emergency number on the Incident Screen. For the maps in the app, route thumbnails and the map in incident reports, map imagery for the area shown is downloaded from Apple. The route line is drawn on top of it on your phone. Your recorded route data and recordings aren't sent to Apple.
- Weather: The locations where a trip starts and ends, and where an incident happened, rounded to about 1 km, are sent to Apple's weather service (WeatherKit) to find the weather at those times. The time is sent too. Your recorded route data and recordings aren't sent.
- Time check: To verify recording times, the app sends a request to the apple.com website when there's an internet connection. Only the time is read from the response. The request contains no location, recordings, cookies or information about your phone. The same check is also used to calculate Premium periods (for example, the 30 days of a Travel Pass). When internet is available, these periods follow the time from the apple.com website, not the phone's clock.
- Recording Vault (optional, Premium): Recording Vault isn't offered in Türkiye. Outside Türkiye, if you turn it on, locked clips, trips, events (including notes and witness details), rentals and photos are uploaded to a private area of your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit service). Apple stores this area on our behalf. So for the vault, we're the controller and Apple is our processor. We can't access this area. Location, notes and witness details are stored in encrypted fields in iCloud. Apple may store the vault in data centers in other countries. The vault stays until you delete recordings or turn off Recording Vault and delete the vault. When you delete a recording on your phone, it's deleted from the vault too. The vault is also subject to Apple's privacy policy and your iCloud settings.
- Siri and Shortcuts: If you give commands such as "Start Recording" with Siri, Apple processes the command.
- Sharing: When you share a recording, report, evidence package or exported trips, the file goes to the app or person you choose. From then on, it's the responsibility of that app or person. Shared videos, photos and reports may include your location. If you turn off "Show Location in Stamp" in Settings > Video Stamp, new videos won't include your location.
- Saving to Photos: If you save a video or summary image to Photos, it's subject to the Photos app and your iCloud Photos settings.
- Purchases (Premium): Payments are made through Apple. Apple doesn't share your payment details with us.
Information That Reaches Us
The app doesn't send your recordings to us. Only the following information reaches us:
- Emails: If you email us, we use your name, email address and what you write only to answer you and solve your problem. Our email is stored with Google's email service (Google Workspace). Google's servers are outside Türkiye. We keep a conversation for up to 2 years after it ends, then delete it. Please don't attach videos or documents to your email. If we need them, we'll ask first.
- Crash reports: If sharing analytics with app developers is turned on in your iPhone settings, Apple passes on to us the technical report created when the app crashes. A report includes the phone model, the iOS version, the time of the crash and the app's technical state. It doesn't include your recordings, location or photos. We use these reports only to find and fix errors. We keep them for up to 2 years.
- Test version (TestFlight): If you join the app's test version, Apple passes on to us the name and email address in your invitation, the feedback and screenshots you send, your phone model and crash reports. In the test version, crash reports reach us regardless of your iPhone settings. If you tap "Share Log", the app's activity log reaches us the way you choose. The log contains no locations. It contains the times and lengths of trips. We delete this information when the test ends.
- App Store statistics: Apple shows us download, sales and usage numbers in aggregate. These numbers don't show who you are.
This information reaches us by email and automatically through Apple's systems. We process emails and test details to carry out our agreement with you and to support you (KVKK Art. 5(2)(c)). We also process emails and crash reports for our legitimate interest in answering questions and fixing errors (KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). This information stays in the systems of Google, our email service, and Apple. We don't share it with anyone else. If the law requires it, we give it to the competent authorities. We don't sell this information or use it for advertising.
Permissions and What They're Used For
- Camera: To record the road, to record the vehicle interior if the cabin camera is on, and to take incident and rental photos.
- Location: To record your route, speed and where events happen, to add your location to the video stamp and the video file's details, to add where incident and rental photos were taken, and to find the pickup location of a rental. If you allow "Always", the app detects and records your drives even when it's closed (auto trips). You can turn this off in Settings.
- Microphone: Only if you turn on audio recording, to add sound inside the vehicle to the video.
- Motion & Fitness: To tell that you're in a vehicle, that you've gotten out and started walking, and how the elevation changes. Your step count and health data aren't read.
- Notifications: To let you know if recording stops, an impact is detected, a drive is detected, a trip ends on its own, the return time for a rental car is near, the introductory period of Premium Yearly is about to end, or your subscription is about to renew.
- Add to Photos: Only when you choose to save a video or summary image.
You can change permissions at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
Backup and Deletion
- Videos, trips, photos, evidence packages and rental files aren't included in your iPhone backup (iCloud or computer). Recordings that aren't in Recording Vault are gone when you change phones or delete the app. Save any recording you want to keep to Photos or somewhere else.
- If Recording Vault is on, locked clips, trips, events, rentals and photos stay in your iCloud account. When you turn on Recording Vault on a new phone, they come back. Unlocked loop recordings and evidence packages aren't included in the vault.
- Location information isn't included in your iPhone backup either. Only your settings (for example, the storage limit and appearance) and your record of accepting the Terms of Use are included in your iPhone backup.
- You can delete a trip, event, clip, package or rental in the app. If Recording Vault is on, it's deleted from the vault too. Deleting the app deletes everything on your phone. You can delete recordings in the vault when you turn off Recording Vault, or from iCloud storage in iPhone Settings.
Other People's Images and Voices
Other people, vehicles and license plates may appear in recordings. If audio recording is on, passengers' conversations are recorded. If the cabin camera is on, the faces of people in the vehicle are recorded. You decide how to use these recordings and who to share them with. You're responsible for following the laws that apply to you, especially data protection laws.
Keeping a recording for yourself is different from sharing it with others. After an accident, giving the recording to the police, your insurer or your lawyer may be necessary to protect your rights. Publishing it online or on social media may violate other people's rights. Many European countries have stricter rules for dashcams. The rules you need to follow are in the "Lawful Use of Recordings" section of the Terms of Use.
Children
The app is designed for people who drive. It isn't directed at children. The app doesn't send anyone's recordings or personal information to us, including children's. In some countries and states, people under 18 need a parent's consent to download apps and make purchases on the App Store. Apple obtains and manages that consent.
Your Rights
Your recordings are on your phone and, if Recording Vault is on, in your own iCloud account. We can't access them. If you want to see, correct, share or delete a recording, you can do it yourself in the app.
For the information that reaches us, you have the rights in Article 11 of Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698. For example, you can ask to access your information, correct it or delete it. You can send your request in writing, in Turkish, to the postal address below or from an email address you've used to write to us before, to ayberk@ayberk.com.tr. We'll reply within 30 days at the latest. There's no charge for a request. If you find our reply inadequate, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu). Your rights in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland are in the next section.
If someone who appears in a recording (for example, a passenger, a witness or another driver) wants a recording about them deleted, they need to ask the person who made it. The recording is on that person's phone or in their iCloud account. We can't access these recordings or delete them.
If You're in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection may also apply to the information that reaches us and to Recording Vault. Under these laws too, Ayberk Altuntop is the controller. We're based in Türkiye.
- Emails: The legal basis is our agreement with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in answering questions (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Crash reports: The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Test version: The legal basis is our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Recording Vault: The legal basis is our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)). Recordings in the vault may show other people, for example drivers or witnesses. For them, the legal basis is the legitimate interest in keeping evidence of an incident (Art. 6(1)(f)). For vault data from the EEA and Switzerland, Apple uses only countries with an adequate level of protection or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
- Locations sent to Apple: Place names and weather are part of the features you use. The legal basis for sending these locations to Apple is our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Recipients: Apple (App Store, crash reports, iCloud, Maps and Weather) and Google (our email service, Google Workspace). Their servers may be outside your country.
- Your rights: You can ask us for access to your information, and to correct it, delete it or restrict its use. You can object to its use and ask for a copy in a portable format. Write to ayberk@ayberk.com.tr. We'll reply within one month.
- Complaints: You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). In Switzerland it's the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
- Automated decisions: Driving Score and event detection are calculated on your phone. We don't make decisions about you that have legal or similar effects.
- You don't have to give us anything: You can use the app without writing to us or turning on Recording Vault.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll publish the new version in the app and on our website and update the date at the top. If there's an important change, we'll let you know in the app.
This policy is available in Turkish and English. Both versions have the same content. If they differ, the meaning that's more favorable to you applies.
